So.... we have lived here for over a year and I made my first furniture purchase! We have a family room just off the Kitchen and it is were people hang out when they are over at our house. We have had it mostly empty and people sit on the floor. So I was very excited to get an L shaped sectional and a matching sofa. I also got a rocking chair recliner, that I have always wanted. Our room is now full! Yay!

Also a picture of us from Easter. Carter was so stinkin handsome! Do you think Paige and I look alike?

Productive Weekend

I would say we had a productive weekend. Jeremy took a few days off work and we painted Paige's bedroom. I finished sewing curtains and hung them in my hallway. I have a long hallway with 2 sliding glass doors. We had slat blinds and I hated them!!!! Plus they had large gaps from children pulling them out.  So here are my new curtains and Paige's new room! We are going to get some vinyl letters printed that says:

Princess.....Daughter of a Heavenly King.

For her wall by the window, So much Fun!!

I would say she looks pretty happy with her new room.

Thoughts from me! Scary, I know.

Since Paige turned one I have had a few reoccurring thoughts.

What can we do to keep out kids from "expecting" mountains of gifts at Birthdays and Christmas? (and Easter and on and on). Seriously, how can they be taught to appreciate what they have and work for things they want. I think this is something that so many kids don't learn at home and it is detrimental to them as adults.

I don't want to watch my kids open a gift just to toss it in a pile and look around for what is next. We (and by we I mostly mean me!) were unsure of what to do for Paige's first Birthday. Christmas seem that it was just here. She didn't need anything. So what did we do...we gave her paint. We bought a few gallons of paint and a wallpaper border. We are going to do her room. Granted if we hadn't she wouldn't have noticed a difference, but I felt we needed to do something.

As Carter has gotten bigger I have had difficulty myself. This Christmas was more difficult not to go overboard. He loves his toys and I see so many cute things that I would love to get him. I am a parent and I would love to give my kids everything to make them happy. But I would rater give them more then temporary happiness. I want to teach them to be hard workers and appreciate the nice things that they have.

Carter now has almost all of the "Cars" from the Disney movie. But we bought them and put them in a bin on top of the fridge. He then had to earn stickers on his potty chart. Once he filled a row he could choose a car. I credit Carter being potty trained to these rewards.

Anyway I digress. What do you do for Birthday's, Christmas and special occasions?

How do we teach our kids not to expect?

How do we teach them to appreciate?

Special Weekend

We have a very special weekend. Lastnight we had a baptism at our house. Our good friends the McCracken's baptisted there oldest Danny. It was really neat to be able to host it at our home. We were so glad they asked to have it here. They had an awesome program....mostly in spanish. (The McCracken adopted four beautiful children from Columbia last year.) We had some yummy treats and lots of people. I counted about 40 adults and there had to been atleasst that many kids. One of the best things about our house is having lots of room to entertain! We love it.

Today we are getting ready to go to the temple to see them all be sealed as a family forever. What an awesome and beautiful family they are. I am so excited for them, they have come a long way and been through much. The ninos have grow so much over the past few months and we have loved watching them. Thanks for letting us be your Tios!

Lazy

Is it really necessary to get dressed every day? Yup it is 11 am and I am still in my Jammie's! I am feeling lazy and we are just getting over a stomach bug at our house.

The other day I was laying down with Carter before his nap and he rolled over and touched my face and said "Mommy, you are my cute boy." Ha what a funny kid. You gotta love it!
